The Campsite is leased from Earnshaws Timber Merchant and is managed by a Committee of Commissioners, Leaders and volunteers from the two Wakefield Divisions (North & South). Our current Committee Chairman is Liz Stearne.
It has been sited here for approximately 15 years after our previous campsite was required as part of the work on the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton. Originally, only two buildings were transferred; the large hut and a small equipment hut and in the first few years things were quite basic until a special toilet/wash block was built and then later after a bequest from Kathleen Smallwood, a further hut was erected.
The last five years have seem some changes with the site. Thanks to donations from individuals, funds raised by the local Guiding Depot and support from local firm Uniglaze the doors and windows have been replace with upvc units on the large hut. Furthermore, a donation from firstdirect helped to improve the environment around the main hut and provide indigenous fruit trees around the site. This combined with a bequest from Jean Fletcher many general improvements have been made.
